Rufcut Riders Dual Sport Club - Marienville Ride 7-21-07

Story By Mark (A.K.A. OhioPT)

I’ve never written a ride report before, but I always enjoy reading those of others on the various forums I frequent, so I figured I’d take a shot at one. This past Friday Don (DR350s) and Nate (Honda NX250) rode their bikes up from Chippewa to meet me at my work place in New Castle. I had trailered my KTM 450exc to work, since I was coming from my place in Ohio. Anyways, we hit the rode route to Marienville, starting off on Rt 18N, and then to routes 158, 62, and then 66. This was a great street ride, with well-paved 2-lane roads that wind through the countryside and up through the Allegheny Forest. Since Nate and I only had a 2-gallon fuel capacity, we had to stop a couple times for gas, although we would have stopped anyways, due to the punishing nature of my KTM’s seat. To ride the Allegheny National Forest trails, we needed to buy permits for the bikes, which can be obtained at the Ranger stations, or the local gas stations. These costs $10/day, or you can buy one for the whole year for $30. We got ours at a small hotel on Rt 66. We proceeded 2 miles North, where we turned off onto 395, which is a forest road that dead-ends at one of the trail heads. This was where we set up camp. Amazingly, it wasn’t that busy for a Friday evening, although it was packed by Saturday afternoon. What a perfect summer night for camping, with temperatures dropping down to the high 40’s. At the camp site, we met up with Bill, his teenage son Alex, and his friend Bob (they trailered up their bikes, all of which were 2-smoke Kawasakis); along with Nate’s bother who brought his Honda XR250 in his pickup.

rambos.com is back AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, so this new program seems pretty cool.  Just like last time, its going to take me some time to get everything working.  I’ll try to get the forums up first.  In the mean time, register for a user account.
